In a strategy development process, I have found that participants are most often challenged by two things:
- A focus on their area of expertise only; and
- A propensity to revert to operational discussions.
These challenges are pitfalls to a good strategy development process, which is necessary for the development of a good strategic plan.
Putting the right resources towards the successful execution of the wrong strategy is very costly.
